Kobe Steel Ltd has completed the construction of a 10,000tns forging press line at its Takasago Works in Hyogo Prefecture in western Japan. Kobe Steel invested about JPY 22 billion to enlarge the Forging Section's South Plant to house an entire production line.

Buderus Edelstahl Schmiedetechnik’s Buderus Edelstahl Wetzlar Works is the site of a new, 80/100-MN open-die forging press. It was designed and installed by SMS Meer, and formally inaugurated in mid March.

Mechel OAO has announced that Russian prime minister Mr Vladimir Putin has inaugurated a stainless steel production complex in the arc furnace melting shop 6 of Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant (CMP). While launching the new production complex in the arc furnace melting shop 6, the Russian PM was accompanied by Mr Igor Sechin deputy prime minister, Mr Victor Khristenko minister of industry & trade, Mr Nikolay Vinnichenko the Plenipotentiary of the President of Russian Federation in Ural Federal Region, Mr Mikhail Yurevich Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region, Mr Igor Zyuzin the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Mechel OAO, Mr Andrei Deineko Chief Executive Officer of Mechel Steel Management OOO and Mr Sergey Malyshev Managing Director of CMP.

Thanks to a new five-year contract agreement between Navistar International Corp. and the United Auto Workers (UAW) union’s Indianapolis Casting Corp. (ICC) has earned another reprieve. The contract covers 250 workers, about half as many as were employed there about 18 months ago when Navistar first announced its intent to close the ferrous foundry.

Saarschmiede GmbH has commissioned the 120MN open-die forging press supplied by SMS Meer, Germany. Together with the board of management of Saarschmiede and of the parent company, Saarstahl AG, Peter Müller, prime minister of Saarland, pressed the start button in the presence of around 1500 guests.
