Casting, or Metalcasting in the case of working with metals, is a mass production process by which a liquid material is usually poured into a mold and then extracted for use. The solidified part is also known as a casting, which is ejected or broken out of the mold to complete the process. Casting materials are usually metals or various cold setting materials that cure after mixing two or more components together; such as plastics, resins, epoxy or clay. Casting is a process that can be used to manufacture complex parts which would prove too expensive or time-consuming to produce using other methods such as cutting or shaping these from solid materials.
